the birth of the perfection.

and no, i'm not referring to my artwork as perfection.
i am not conceded ya'll! :)
i hope everyone has a better holiday season than myself.
they're always so stressful...so "what are you going to do?"
why can't it be "what would you like to do?" or "what are you doing now?"
i don't like christmas anymore, they just have been not so...not like they used to be
since papa died. stress and planning. that's all i think of when i think of
the holidays.
parents won't agree or they'll get offended, but isn't it true?
no one has exactly a full jolly season. the loss of loved ones or drastic changes
change how you see things.

but things like i just made....art gets me through these tough days.
i love art. i'd be lost if i lived in a world where i couldn't do it everyday.
where i was limited from it.

fishy turned into an eye! e.0

Here we go! This one I personally believe shows my true understanding of surrealism. I drew this several months ago and have always loved it. The fish on the hook I transformed into an eye, still fitting criteria but feeding my hunger for satisfaction.

I spy...the obvious eye.

This is my eye project finito.
The assignment was to create a surrealist-ic piece incorporating the eye. I think I am going to create a second work, considering this doesn't really fit me for this project. Doesn't seem to scream that there is a hidden or even an eye in this.
Oh well. I do compliment myself for the woman's outline, I have always fancied the artisticness of it.

Surrealism...ain't it dandy??

Surrealism is my favorite art movement. i first learned of it in the eighth grade, sitting in a book store reading about art. I hit a book titled "Surrealism" and this book has been by my night stand ever since that day. In it I saw works by numerous surrealists, including the infamous Dali.

The definition of surrealism is one I will give from notes my art teacher gave me the other week.

Surrealism is a 20th Century movement in art, with Andre Bretton as the main speaker of this period. DaDa influence on surrealism is big, basically creating un-conformity in the art world. "Rational thought brought on the bad state of the world, which in turn created surrealism."
Sigmund Froyd was a psychoanalyst, who did a couple studies on this time...especially since some of the artwork produced was a little "out there."
This era of artwork let names such as Dali and Picasso become infamous. The Exquisite Corpse became famous from then, a game perhaps you have heard when you do one thing and pass it along, basically layers piling up to create a work of art.
Another way to sum up Surrealism is "re-uniting the conscience and un-conscience."

Here is a link to Andre Bretton's: site:http://www.studiocleo.com/librarie/breton/bretonpage.html

Explanation.

When I was at my Grandmother's shop, she asked me what I wanted to have embroidered on my blanket. I told her zz...0109...zz. Well, many people ask me what that even is, besides a bunch of random things.

Since I named my blog this, I figure I would shed some light and understanding on that.
My Papa died in January of '09. That is where the 0109 part comes from.
It helps me when I go to bed thinking that's what Papa did, he just went to sleep. (hint, hint: the "zz".)
He went to sleep January 2009.

Unfortunately, though, he isn't waking up.

Perspective. Oh, joy.

Perspective is...as Ms. Soto said, a little left brained. It's so darn technical; probably the one thing in art I cannot stand. But, as I was complaining and what not blah blah blah, Ms. Soto shed some light onto the assignment and brought up the fact that there is a way I can put a touch of myself into the one project I couldn't stand. There are fish in the sky, people!!!

comic book is finito.

Let me just say, I have a bad time making up stories that need to be funny in even the least bit. I am not a funny person, as in I don't make my own jokes. I make funny moments, but not jokes or funny stories. Therefor, it goes without saying that this was the hardest assignment for me so far.

Doodle! I luuurve doodling ya'll..

I love doodling...been doing since I was a lil' one. The background in this here picture is a big piece of paper completely filled with quotes and passages from lewis Carrol's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The top is just random doodles in my mind. There is actually a space where it says "I love Joan Jett", brought to me with a recent fascination in her and the Blackheart's music.

thanks ms.soto for this awesome assignment!

Inspired by the GREATEST GUY EVER.

Tim Burton is my favorite...well favorite anything. He is my number one role model. Director, writer, poet, artist, and just person. Every interview I see him in he is really just down to Earth and so into what he does. I hope to be just as talented as he is some day.

this one image is the image by tIM burton that inspired my illustration.

..how to be scene..

A couple months ago, a lot of people referred to me as a "scene kid." You know, skinny jeans...and black eyeliner everywhere? Well I did do all that, so I guess I did fall into that category.

But this is for all the skinny people that made fun of me. HA.

Oh...by the way? I have to do another how-to so people who cannot read can actually understand it :) oops!!

Macinac Island- BEST PLACE EVER.

For this project, we had to choose either our favorite place we have been, or some where we really want to go to one day.
Over this past summer, my parents took me to Michigan for two weeks. Michigan...is breathtaking. There are art galleries and art stores absolutely EVERYWHERE. It was my peninsula-version of Heaven.
The upper peninsula, otherwise known as the U.P., is famous for having an amazing abundance of wild life, and being one of the top places to live if you like winter, the outdoors, and plenty of homey places to eat.
Getting up closer to the top of the Great Lakes and Canada, there is a Macinac city.
It's pronounced Macinaw, and especially people who have never been to Michigan
will pronounce the "c" as a "k".

Well...there is a special little ferry that will take people to the Island. The ferry, or a regular boat with an awesome name, goes super speedy fast-but it feels sooo good.
Once you get to the island, you will notice two things at the very least: there are no cars, and a lot of fudge shops. And a very distinct smell of horse crap.
There are I think only three-five vehicles on the island, and they are only used for emergencies. Usually people take bikes, and tourists usually take a horse trolley and walk everywhere else.
Can you imagine their carbon footprints?????

There are tons of scary stories and exciting tales. There is a governor, and his/her house is HUGE. The main hotel of the island which is very famous is called the Grand Hotel. Unfortunately, it's very expensive. But it's GORGEOUS...

:) my future home: Macinac Island.

Finally...actually doing what i hope to do for my life..

When I grow up, I am going to be an illustrator. The only problem is I want to do it the old-fashioned way. I want to paint and go crazy and make covers for books that look like they came fresh off an artist's board. I would rather not use a computer to do it. I want to paint nd draw and glue things, then send it in and see who wants to take it.
The only problem? My parents and even some of my friends I know remind me constantly that if I want to succeed-truly succeed-in art, I need to know how to use the modern day technology. I want to do this my way, but I also want to raise a family and be happily married with my high school sweet heart, and not constantly worry about money.
Any-hazel-witch...The Mis-Adventures of Jillybean. I think it has potential. This really, what I have done is not a finished copy. I am going to develop this idea at home, with paint and my own two hands. It's not going to be computer generated at all. I am totally re-doing this MY WAY and I think I will post it on here to show everyone the difference. How my passion IS art, 100%....how I WILL succeed in life doing illustration the good ol' way. Chances are? This drawn and developed at home will look 100 times better than this computer version I whipped up.
Don't get me wrong, ya'll. I put all of my patience into this project, but...I just can't stare at a computer and draw on it and feel that my creative juices are completely free-flowing. I get itchy saying that I use the computer to complete an art piece in my name.
WHERE IS MY GOD FORSAKEN PAINT BRUSH?????

Typography....OOOH FANCY WORD...

"Just" is a very useful word in the English language. I like it...when someone asks me, "Why are you so weird?" or "Why would you wear such a combination?" I usually answer with "Just because."

"Just is...Just will....Just can be." All very great conversation enhancers. It makes people think and question why they themselves do things.

Soda Promotion

Jasmine-Beckett Griffith is one of the most talented artists I have ever heard of. Her art work is very enchanting, and the girls she creates, rather it be her own version of Little Red Riding Hood or Marie Antoinette, her paintings always turn out very smooth and magical. This Halloween themed painting of hers is incredible! Just found it yesterday and knew a fake release date for my drink is of course going to be Halloween.
Hope you like it:))

Self portrait

This self portrait was a series of unintentional epicness. The spiral effect outlining the left side of my body was at first a mistake, but turned into one of the things I like most of this portrait. I titled it the Life and Lies of Lauren Fox, because if I ever do end up being famous and someone does a story on me, this is the title I command to be seen by readers.

The expression in the picture I chose is my regular Thinking of Life look. I throw over one arm and just revert back to the past. It can be three days ago or three minutes ago, but I just constantly look back on what I've done.

Chameleon Pen Tracer

This wasn't my favorite project...but useful. I didn't master the pen tool on Illustrator as I intended to, but I do have the skill down so if I ever do need to use this I can.

It is a nice little project to get us used to the tool.

Paint my CLOWN.

My mother is terrified of clowns. I used to have a tape of Barnum and Bailey's circus, and she actually threw it away when she saw there was clowns taped.

Mom and I don't have the best relationship. Actually, I have one of the worst relationship type with my Mom then pretty much all the kids at school do. (That I know of.) Things are looking up though, but we will never be the same.

I think of her a lot, and miss her. Clowns have fascinated me though ever since she threw that movie away. Sad, gothic, or just creepy clowns like the one from IT interest me. I am actually starting an at home art project with oil pastels and pictures I found off the internet so I can create my own clowns.

This picture was nice to me. This clown reminds me of prisoners with their mouths stitched shut. There is a hint of sadness that attracts me to this pic.

Enjoy :))

Scissors for Hands and Nightmares for Gifts.

For our official first project in our class, we did a collage on our favorite thing/idea/whatever. I chose Tim Burtons Creations of course, having to google this and use photoshop for the very first time. Difficulties, difficulties....
My virtual paper was filled to the brim with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Winona Ryder, and the Brains Behind it All, Tim Burton. I was instructed to experiment with shadows, and color changing-ness...and it was AWESOME.
I chose Tim Burton for one reason: He is my idol. I want to grow up and meet him before I die, I hope to have a copy of his artwork-book, and just bask in his greatness. His style is disturbing and beautiful (at the same time), and his stories makes sense and teach a lesson. All his movies make me laugh, cry, smile, feel pain for the characters, and clap at the end. This is called evoking emotions, and that's what a great piece of artwork does to people.
